INTERGENERATIONAL CULTURE PRESERVATION PROGRAM

The California Indian Manpower Consortium, Inc. (CIMC) has been awarded a grant from the U.S. Corporation for National and Community Service State VISTA (Volunteers In Service To America) program to administer an Intergenerational Culture Preservation (ICP) program. CIMC's ICP program addresses issues on healthy lifestyles and loss of culture by providing health workshops, cultural mentoring and community service learning. It creates opportunities for elders and youth to learn, participate and restore the traditional ways of their tribes through education, cultural awareness workshops, health awareness workshops, mentorship opportunities with Native elders, trips to cultural museums, ceremonies, and cultural activities. The CIMC ICP project provides skill training in areas of filmmaking, photography, art, library science, archiving, anthropology, writing and publishing for community members. It addresses specific community needs by giving community members opportunities to utilize their skills and talents.

CIMC's ICP program activities are designed to assist with achieving the following goals:

1. Develop strong and healthy communities;

3. Build social capacity by encouraging elders and youth to contribute positively to the community.
